PG Chamber radio show: Now Booking for April 2020

Every month, your Punta Gorda Chamber teams up with local iHeart Media DJ – Bob Alexander to focus on Chamber members and what they are up to.  For only $105, you get to pre-record 2 x 2 ½ minute slots  (which can be the same or different) which will be inserted into Bob’s show on the first Wednesday and Thursday of each month.  This is one of the largest local radio audiences available to us. You don’t even have to go to the studio any more. In Downtown Punta Gorda. Art-Music-Live Demonstrations-Shopping & Food! What better way to spend an evening out with old friends while you take the time to make new ones. Wine Walk works by donating $10 at the PG Chamber (in advance or on the night) to get a wristband and passport that entitles you to a walking wine tasting – a map of all retail participants will accompany your wristband. Each location will have two different wine varietals to taste! Wristbands can also be purchased at Hipnotique on the day of the event. Not a wine drinker, you can still come and enjoy the atmosphere and shop, dine and stroll around.

String Fever Returns to Punta Gorda. The amazing musical group Sting Fever is coming to the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association for their third year. Looking for an amazing evening’s entertainment like you’ve never seen before? String Fever is a truly original show featuring five and six stringed electric violins, called violectras, a viola, and a cello.

The fantastic culmination of the show is the group’s signature finale, “The History of Music . . . in 5 minutes.” The unique instruments and charismatic personalities of the members of the group make String Fever a truly unique and unforgettable, not to miss, musical experience. Concert will be at PGICA 2001 Shreve Street. Pine Needle Baskets Workshop with Kathryn Erickson

St Vincent de Paul – Walk for the Poor

The four St Vincent de Paul conferences of the Charlotte county district are holding the 11th annual Walk for the Poor on February 15th at Laishley park. Registration begins at 8:00 am and the walk begins at 9:00 on a leisurely walk along the Trabue harbor walk. Funds raised help those struggling with financial, material and educational assistance. The Homeless Coalition – Tacos & Tours

Come join The Homeless Coalition for a Fiesta Fun evening and learn what’s new in 2020. We are hosting Tacos and Tours at The Coalition Café located at 1476 Kenesaw Street in Port Charlotte on Tuesday, February 18th from 6pm-7:30pm. For $10 you can enjoy a delicious Mexican feast from local area restaurants including Joseph’s Deli and many more. Come see how feed, shelter and create a successful plan to alleviate and prevent hunger and homelessness. Proceeds will fund the programs and services that assist residents in our community with a “hand up. The Punta Gorda Rotary Club Foundation is hosting a wine and cheese “Friendraiser”, from 6:30-8:30 PM, February 20th, for its Water4Life Mozambique international project at the Military Heritage Museum, 800 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.   Rotarian Arnie Eastburn, who also heads the Water4Life nonprofit (https://water4lifemozambique.org/) will give a short presentation on the significance of bringing clean, safe water to remote villages in the Zambezia Province of Mozambique, Africa. Tickets are $25 and also include access to the museum’s displays, and they may be purchased at https://squareup.com/store/punta-gorda-rotary-club.

The Yoga Sanctuary

Introduction to Yoga Series, Mondays, February 10- March 16, 5.30-6.45pm, $108, 112 Sullivan St, Punta Gorda. No flexibility required; all ages and body types welcome! This six-week series, limited to eight students, will walk you through the basics of yoga. Each student will receive a copy of Yoga Fan: Practice Guide for Everyday as well as guidance and support in how to continue one’s practice after the completion of the series. Due to the small class size, which allows for individualized attention, pre-registration is required.

Partner Yoga, Saturday February 15,3–5pm,$75 A Couple
Partner Yoga will heighten your sense of curiosity and exploration. When practicing with another, you can explore poses in depth and support each other in discovering the dynamics of different poses. Partner yoga is a great way to practice surrender, empathy and balance. It’s also just a lot of fun – you’ll laugh as you strengthen and stretch the body! So this Valentine’s weekend, grab a partner and join us for the fun. There may even be a bit of chocolate to share with your partner at the end! No previous yoga experience necessary.

Qigong classes start this Monday, February 17 at 1 PM with Jim Wilson. Qigong Exercises are the foundational practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Valerie’s House Launches Grief Support Program for Young Adults Program meets needs of growing number of grieving college-age and young adults

Valerie’s House, the first and only grief support program in Southwest Florida focused solely on helping children grieve, has launched a program to help young adults work through their grief following the death of parent, sibling or friend. The Young Adult Grief Support Group is geared toward 18 to 25-year-olds and will meet at Valerie’s House- Fort Myers, 1762 Fowler Street in Fort Myers from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on the 1st Monday of each month. Valerie’s House Program Coordinator Ally O’Brien, who has been working with Valerie’s House since she was an intern at Florida Gulf Coast University four years ago, will lead the group. Howard Spielman – Artist. As a result of a Charlotte Arts showcase my work is now displayed in the

lobby of the administration building in Port Charlotte for February. In conjunction with that display, I had a video interview with C.C. T.V. which was aired locally January 16. When we moved cross-country, my wife and I decided to drive both of our cars. Nathan, our eight-year-old, worriedly asked, “How will we keep from getting separated?”
“We’ll drive slowly so that one car can follow the other,” I reassured him.
“Yeah, but what if we do get separated?” he persisted.
“Well, then I guess we’ll never see each other again,” I quipped.
