Punta Gorda Hibiscus Festival Is Back The Punta Gorda Hibiscus Festival is back in Gilchrist Park April 29-May 1. The festival benefits the Charlotte County Historical Society. The festival is aided by and promotes Chakulla and the Hunger Bus, “Singing Out For Food.” We invite you to bring non-perishable food items to help fill our food pantries.
Join us Friday, April 29 from 6-10 pm for a concert of fabulous music. Enjoy sweet & savory food and beverages while listening and dancing.
Saturday, April 30, the event opens at 9 am to sell Hibiscus, Exotics, Trees, Organics etc., as well as crafts and other types of goods. Also starting at 9 am will be the crowning of the Hibiscus King and Queen and the Lil’ Miss Hibiscus Pageant. Music will continue on two stages from 10 am until 4 pm.
Sunday, May 1, the festival will open at 10 am with music, food and plants galore until 3 pm.
Charlotte County Utilities Department Summer Internship Program
The Charlotte County Utilities Department is seeking applicants for its six-week summer internship program. Applicants must be current high school students. The paid internship program will give students hands-on experience while learning about water distribution, treatment facilities, and wastewater collection.
The program starts on Monday, June 13 and ends on Friday, July 22. The hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm.

Boy Scouts Seeking Help
There are 10 scouts and four adults preparing to going South Carolina for a week in June. Summer camp is a very important part of Boy Scouts. There are a lot of life lessons packed into this annual trip. We really don’t want these boys to miss this opportunity. Charlotte County Orders Burn Ban
Charlotte County issued an emergency order Tuesday banning outdoor burning (including yard waste and recreational fires) and the private use and discharge of fireworks and sparklers. This prohibition does not affect attended barbecue/cooking equipment or burn permits issued by the Florida Forest Service. The ban will remain in effect until the County Commission repeals it.

The Charlotte County Human Resources Department in partnership with CareerSource Southwest Florida has scheduled a job fair from 3-7 pm, Monday, April 11 at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center, 75 Taylor St. in Punta Gorda. This is a multi-agency event with employers from Charlotte County Public Works, Utilities, Building Construction Services, Recreation and Pools, Information Technology, Public Safety, Fire & EMS as well as the Tax Collector, schools and more.
