Punta Gorda Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau

The Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau is accepting nominations for the Annual Tourism Awards, presented in partnership with the Charlotte chapter of the FRLA. These awards recognize stand out employees from local Restaurants, Hotel/Motel/Resorts, Vacation Rentals and Attractions. The online nomination form can be accessed here. Nominations are due by April 11.

The awards presentation will take place at the Annual Tourism Celebration lunch on May 5.

Harboritaville, Toes In the Sand, a new family-friendly event on Saturday, April 2 on the Great Lawn at the T.T. Tiki Bar at Four Points By Sheraton from 12:30-6:30 pm.

Musical guests will include Michael Hayman’s Hibiscus Band, Tropical Avenue and John Patti Group.

The party on the lawn will benefit 10 of our local non-profits that will be promoting their causes, serving their own unique Margaritas and competing in a hula skirt dance-off competition.

The winning drink of the day will be based on voting by attendees purchasing the Margarita Row tickets/wristbands. The hotel/tiki will serve the winning margarita for one year and give the non-profit $1 for every time the drink is purchased. Watch for more details shortly!

Edison and Ford Winter Estates – On April 9, Edison and Ford Winter Estates is hosting the annual “Grow Fort Myers” plant sale and gardening workshops event. Plants will be available for sale in the Garden Shoppe, as well as from select vendors. In the workshops, participants will learn how to care for orchids and bromeliads, garden with containers and how to create a habitat for butterflies and birds.

April 22 at 7:30 pm, Edison and Ford Winter Estates hosts the opening event for the annual Fort Myers Film Festival. Three films will be shown on the Henry Ford estate lawn including an early Edison piece with sound, a film about the Koreshan community and an original film featuring a clip from “Calendar Girls.” Tickets are $10 for Edison Ford members, $15 for non-members and may be purchased at EdisonFord.org.

Ukrainian Embroidery Exhibit at Mid-County Regional Library

Ukrainian Embroidery: An Ancient and Traditional Art Form, will be featured through March 31 at the Mid-County Regional Library. Sponsored by the Ukrainian-American Club of Southwest Florida, the display includes vyshyvka (embroidery), ceramics, wooden eggs and more. An informational pamphlet and display cards highlight the historical and regional significance of the patterns and pieces. The exhibit may be viewed Monday-Thursday, 10 am-7 pm; Friday and Saturday 10 am-6 pm at 2050 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952. Southwest Florida Postal Customer CouncilNames New Board Member

The Southwest Florida Postal Customer Council (SWFPCC) recently named Mark Drayton, owner of The Shipping Post with locations in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the SWFPCC. “I’m honored,” says Mark, “and looking forward to helping this worthwhile organization continue to grow.”

The Postal Customer Council (PCC) is a group made up of industry and Postal leaders with the mission of learning and helping each other grow. The Southwest Florida PCC is made up of members from Naples, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. This group is led by Postmaster and Co-Chair James Chambers and industry Co-Chair Steve Bellow, owner of Intech Printing.
